Ganja La Chuli (Naya Kanga) Expedition- 5844m - 18 Days

Ganja La Chuli (Naya Kanga) Expedition- 5844m - 18 Days

Ganja La Chuli (Naya Kanga) 5844m. is marvelously situated in the southern flank Langtang region of Nepal and towering over the South of alpine Langtang valley and holy lakes of Gosaikund. Its fine ridge systems provide superb climbing and spectacular scenery from a top the summit; you can gaze in wonder at the peaks of the Jugal Himal as a Dome Blanc, Langshisa Ri and at Tibet's highest Mt. Shisapangma 8035m. the last 8,000m. peak in the World to be the climbed.

The normal route of ascent to Naya Kanga is via the north - East Ridge over a line on ice and snow. We follow the route of Langtang trek to Kyangjin (3,749m/12,297ft) for the ascent of Naya Kanga. To the north above Kyangjing, there are several hills that provide both the magnificent views and acclimatization. Northeast of Kyangjing Ri (4,700m/15,416ft), there are two peaks; Yala Peak (5,500m/18,045ft) and Tsergo Peak (5,749m/18,857ft) that provide good climbing for acclimatization.

We then trek through the summer settlement of Yala Khark, for an acclimatization climb of the very easy Yala peak 18045ft. before moving onto our base camp just below the crest of the Ganja la.

We continue following the trail to Ganja La climbing steeply through moraine. We leave Ganja La trail to climb steeply up yet more moraine to reach the eastern end of the glacier shelf beneath the northeast face of Naya Kanga (Ganja La). We set up the high camp here for the ascent. We cross the glacier shelf to the foot of a shallow couloirs heading to the north ridge. We climb the couloirs to the notch and the base of the ridge. Then we turn to the ice nose on the left, which is only the technical section on the climb. Now the ridge widens and leads to a small col. on the east-west summit ridge and the summit is only 30m higher to the right. The climb near the summit should be done carefully. Normally, the ascent takes 5-7 hours from the high camp. For the return trek, we may follow Ganja La-Helambu route or back the way we came in to Dhunche. Or we return to the Langtang valley and to the sacred lakes of the Gosaikund before crossing of Lauribinayak pass to Nepal's other Sherpa area, the Helambu valley where once again magnificent mountain views are for the taking. This route could be followed if you have enough time.

The real trip to the summit of Naya Kanga starts either from Dhunche or Syabru Bensi. From Dhunche the trail leads slowly up to the Kyangjin Gompa, one visit with pleasure Buddhist Monastery that is very famous region. Then, you continue up the base camp crossing Ganja la Pass 4510m, which is one of the strenuous passes. Two days are allowed to ascend the peak, then you past to the Dukpu, Tarkeghyang, and Patibhanjyang to the Sundarijal from where you can drive back to Kathmandu.
